COMPARISON OF HAIR EXTENSION METHODS

Comparison of hair extension methods

At Hair Extensions by Char you can choose from permanent extensions or a temporary solution to give your hair a beautiful volume and/or length boost. In our salons in Amsterdam, The Hague and Eindhoven we specialize in keratin wax extensions. These are favorites because they do not damage your own hair (provided they are professionally rolled!), blend very naturally with your own hair and are lightweight on the head.

Looking for flexibility with easy-to-apply and remove extensions? Then the Halo/Flip-in extensions is the best option for you, you can find them in our webshop. Perfect for those who are looking for removable options without sacrificing fabulous looks. Whether you prefer a permanent or temporary solution, we have the ideal choice for you!

Method in our salons

🥇 Keratin wax (not removable)

The keratin wax hair extensions are perfect for volume and/or length. They look very natural because of the thin tufts. With this method you can also easily choose different shades. The rolling method is completely safe when professionally installed, removed and when the care instructions are followed.

There are different sizes of wax bonds available, at Hair Extensions by Char we use the ‘’normal‘’ size, which is the most durable, does not slip out of the client's own hair easily and remains invisible as we take into account how the client's own hair falls, how the client likes to wear the hair etc. The average price is €400, including an additional service appointment.

The average wearing period is 3.5 months, during the wearing period any loose tufts can be put back. After the wearing time we do not to reuse the tufts. This is due to less pleasant wearing comfort, thicker bonds after repositioning and the time-consuming treatment.

Halo/ Flip-ins (removable)

A variant of the clip-ins is the Halo/Flip-in, which are easy to use. Due to the wire and only a few clips, they hardly burden the head and are very comfortable to wear.

They are perfect for people with thin to normal hair, they contain 100 grams of hair so if your own hair is quite thick to thick, they are too thin for an extension. It could be used for extra volume for people with fairly thick to thick hair.

Halo/Flip-ins are also attractive in terms of price, depending on the length/colors you pay around €200 - €250. Just like the clip-ins, they last a year or even years if properly cared for.

You can order the halo / flip-ins & ponytails from us via the webshop. You can also visit us in one of the salons (Amsterdam, The Hague or Eindhoven), by appointment, for the correct color determination.

Advantages and disadvantages of other hair extension methods (we do not offer these)

Tape ins

Tape-in hair extensions are popular, they are relatively cheap (+/- €200 - €300) and the treatment only takes about an hour. It gives a natural look, provided your own hair is not too thin. The tape-ins can be very visible in thin hair. With tape-ins it is important that you pay attention to which care products you use, as the glue can be loosened/dissolved by hair masks, conditioner and oil. Also pay extra attention when brushing, the tape-in pieces are quite wide and can easily get stuck behind your brush. They last 6-8 weeks.

Weave-ins (braided hairpieces)

Weaves are available in all colours/styles and lengths.
The great thing about weave hair extensions is that they last a long time and can be put up several times. They are suitable for people with normal to thick hair. For very thin hair it is too heavy and quite visible. The price varies widely, for beautiful high-quality weaves the approximate price is from €500. Weave-ins are quite heavy to wear and can be experienced as uncomfortable.   Long-term use can cause damage to the scalp and hair where the pieces were braided.

Micro rings / nano rings

Micro ring or nano ring hair extensions are also a popular hair extension method.
They look natural and last a relatively long time. You can reposition the tufts by breaking the ring/bead and attaching a new one. No heat tool is used during deployment. The disadvantage of this method is that the material is quite hard, so the rings/beads can damage your own hair.  Unfortunately, hair breakage is often found when removing the tufts. The price is on average around €300.

Clip-ins (removable)

With clip-in hair extensions you can go in any direction, you can endlessly vary your style and play with colors. The big advantage is that they are easy to use. A disadvantage is that you have to keep clipping them on and off of your hair (you can't sleep with them on, for example). With intensive use it can cause damage due to the large number of clips. The clips can damage the scalp and hair roots. Clip-ins remain beautiful for a long time (with proper care), they can last a year or even several years. Prices depend on the number of grams/color(s) and length, a high-quality set of about 150 grams costs +/- €350.
