Hi fabulous! Enjoy (and keep enjoying as long as possible) your beautiful locks. Below you will find all the care tips per method to optimally maintain the lifespan and appearance of your hair extensions.
Keratin wax hair extensions – The average wear time is 3.5 months. Follow the tips below to enjoy them to the max. The responsibility for proper care during the wear time lies with you.
1.Use mild, natural hair products
Only use mild, natural products after the treatment. Wash your hair exclusively with silicone and sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. We recommend the shampoos and conditioners from REF Stockholm. Wash your extensions a maximum of 1x per week. Tip: use REF Dry Shampoo to skip a wash and keep your hair fresh.
Wait at least 2 days before washing after the treatment. The wax still needs time to harden optimally. Washing immediately increases the chance of losing strands.
2.Do not dye or bleach
Extensions may NOT be dyed or bleached. This damages and dries them out. Make sure your hair color is correct before the treatment (color at least 1-1.5 weeks in advance). Do you still want to color? Only in the same or darker shade, entirely at your own risk.
3.Oil only in lengths and ends
Use hair oil only in the lengths and ends. Avoid contact with the wax bonds. Oil can cause bonds to be affected and slip. Our tip: REF Shine Elixir for silky soft, shiny lengths and ends!
4.Avoid sunscreen and self-tanner
Sunscreen and self-tanners can cause permanent stains due to substances like avobenzone and oxybenzone. Choose a natural sunscreen (e.g., Naïf, Clarins, or Clinique) or wear your hair up so it does not come into contact.
5.Use silver shampoo carefully
Although silver shampoo helps with yellow tones, it can also cause discoloration or dehydration. Our tip: REF Silver Shampoo. This is mild and not harmful to our extensions. With other brands, always test a small piece of hair first or consult your stylist.
6.Brush and blow-dry daily after washing
Brush your hair regularly with a special extensions brush. Start at the ends and work your way up, also gently brushing over the bonds. Always blow-dry the hair. Air drying causes frizz and tangles.
Never brush your hair when it's wet! Never go to sleep with wet hair.
7.Heat protectant & max. 180 degrees
Always use REF Heat Protection before using styling tools. Do not set them higher than 180 degrees. NEVER put a styling tool directly on the wax bonds, as this will melt them. Start below the bond and work towards the ends.
8.Midterm check: free service appointment
Schedule your 1x free included service appointment (value €75) with your stylist. During this appointment, we check the bonds, replace any loose strands, wash/blow-dry/trim, and style your locks. Most clients schedule this after ±1.5 months.
It is normal for about 10% of the strands to slip out during the wear time. Always keep them and take them to your service appointment!
9.Have extensions removed professionally
Removal must be done timely and carefully to prevent damage. Our stylists use a special removal fluid and pliers. After removal, we wash and style your hair so you leave the salon feeling fabulous!

Note: not all products can be used directly on the roots of the extensions. This can affect the wax and cause the strands to slip. Our stylists can inform you well about this, or ask your question via Whatsapp.
